I just returned from the American Psychological Association’s annual convention and boy, am I energized! I attended three days of phenomenal, cutting edge, science-based workshops. Plus, I had an opportunity to attend a social event for Gottman trainers which gave me time to visit with Drs. John and Julie Gottman and re-connect with Drs. Don and Carrie Cole who were significant influences during my own Gottman training. What a highlight!
I attended workshops on couples and family work, working with men and boys, culturally responsive treatment for individuals with chronic illness and disability, ethics, and autism, in addition to pre-surgical assessment. One of things I love about being a psychologist is the breadth of lived experiences I engage with through my clients. Each and every one of these workshops touched on an aspect of my practice. And sometimes one client can have several of these identities.
I was able to network with former students and colleagues, plus meet new professionals. I learned about books and resources I have already been able to share with clients. And I have already ordered books which will assist me in preparing workshops and growing my knowledge base!
So, when your therapist takes time off for continuing education, it really benefits you, the client. When I learn and engage with leaders in the field of psychology, it is bound to freshen and improve the services I provide. One of the aspects of counseling psychology that I embrace is the identity of “life long learner.” I just love to learn and I know that I am not alone. Most of the counselors and psychologists I have come across in my career also love to learn.
We recently conducted an in-person Gottman Level 1 training. Within the post-training evaluation, the most common response to “Rate your enjoyment of the course” was “LOVED IT!“
Once people are introduced to the power and science of the Gottman Method, they become believers, because it is designed to be easy for couples to learn and implemented by therapists (and allied professionals) in a way that is both positive and hopeful.
In my experience, therapists love to learn an approach that is going to be helpful to their clients and that they feel confident in being able to implement. So, I encourage you to spread the word that we are doing TWO more Gottman Level 1 trainings in 2024. Both will be virtual and offer our best discounts of the year!
Also, we are offering discounts to graduate students (special discounts for KU and Oklahoma State grad students), plus discounts for alumni of KU and Oklahoma State, clergy, and other graduate students. We also are offering discounts for KU and Oklahoma State faculty!! Plus, our regular registration fee is less than you’ll find with other trainers of the Level 1. So, check out our website for more information and to register. Questions? Contact Connie, our office manager, at 913-777-6665.
Come and learn with us!! We’d love to have you join us this fall!
